This week, the Tenerife Trade Fair Centre becomes the epicenter of the archipelago’s gastronomy with the celebration of the 10th Canary Islands Gastronomic Fair – GastroCanarias 2025, which takes place from May 20 to 22. This edition marks a decade of sustained growth, innovation, and Canarian culinary pride, consolidating its position as the most important gastronomic event in the Canary Islands.
A fair with a Canary Islands flavor
This year, the fair exceeded all expectations: more than 200 stands and the direct participation of the seven island councils , which showcase the best of their respective islands’ traditional and contemporary cuisine. Attendees can discover unique products such as gofio majorero, Tacoronte-Acentejo wines, Gomera palm honey, and Canarian black pork, in addition to experiencing the latest innovations in signature cuisine.
The event is aimed at both professionals in the HORECA (hotel, restaurant, and catering) sector and lovers of fine dining, with a diverse program that includes culinary exhibitions, presentations, tastings, networking , and competitions.
Championships, training and local talent
One of the pillars of GastroCanarias is its official championships, which bring together the archipelago’s best chefs, pastry chefs, bartenders , and baristas. This year, the 19th Canary Islands Cooking Championship – Grand Prix of the Tenerife Island Council crowned Nahuel Campos Núñez, representing Tenerife, as the new champion. His proposal, based on a balance of technique, local produce, and creativity, dazzled the jury.
Additionally, there are competitions in pastry making, ham carving, classic and flair cocktails, beer cooking, tapas, acrobatic pizza, and gourmet burgers. Each competition offers a live culinary show that captivates attendees and showcases the technical expertise of the island’s professionals.
Training and avant-garde: Specialized classrooms
For the first time, the Makro Classroom is coming to the Canary Islands from trade shows like Madrid Fusión and San Sebastián Gastronomika, marking a leap forward in the quality of the training offered at the event. Masterclasses, signature cooking shows, and lectures by international experts are held here.
At the same time, the Hecansa – GastroCanarias Classroom promotes emerging talent with practical classes for hospitality and vocational training students from all over the Canary Islands, reinforcing the event’s commitment to gastronomic education.
Sustainability, zero kilometers and innovation
GastroCanarias 2025 also focuses on sustainable gastronomy . Many stands and presentations revolve around the use of local products, zero waste, and seasonal cuisine. Public institutions and private companies collaborate to reinforce the zero-mile concept and the valorization of the Canary Islands’ primary sector.
Economic impact and tourism projection
GastroCanarias also has a significant economic impact. In previous editions, it has attracted over 21,000 visitors, and this year’s event is expected to be even larger. Hotels, restaurants, and businesses in Santa Cruz de Tenerife are already experiencing high occupancy during the event, confirming the potential of gastronomic tourism as a driver of development.
The fair also has a significant international presence , thanks to the presence of specialized media, guest chefs from outside the archipelago, and brands seeking to expand their market in the islands.
